Congestive Heart Failure And Depression- Successful Treatments

By: Alan B. Densky, CH

Congestive heart failure, or CHF, is among the most commonly found chronic health problems in the United States. Almost five million individuals live with this condition, and half a million more develop CHF each year. This condition can be slightly problematic, or it can become disabling and interfere with daily living.

Persons with CHF undergo numerous deviations from their previous daily activities. They have to take drugs to relieve water accumulation and to decrease the work performed by their heart muscle. Many of these result in depression and exhaustion. These medications can also hinder physical intimacy with a spouse or significant other.

Another struggle that persons with this disease encounter is the requirement for significant diet adjustments. Many have to quit eating beef, stay away from meals with a lot of fats or salt, or restrict the quantity of liquids they drink each day. They are instructed to lose weight and exercise to stay as healthy as they can.

The truth is, however, persons with CHF do not have as much physical endurance as before. Rather, they have to watch as friends and relatives play volleyball, swim, or work out. This results in despair and inadequacy. Additionally, many sufferers grieve their loss of physical strength and wellness.

The majority of people who experience this and are not yet of retirement age also have to quit working. As well as causing money problems and depression, this may worsen emotions of isolation and seclusion. They find themselves alone. Instead of chatting with the colleague at the next desk, they stare at TV while their friends continue their live.

Occasionally, sufferers take anti-depressant or anti-anxiety drugs to manage these losses. Alternatively, people may opt for psychotherapy or group therapy to help them with fulfilling belongingness needs and working through the mourning induced by their newly changed lives.

A more effective method of dealing with this kind of depression, however, has achieved recent recognition and gained almost instant popularity among patients who have tried it. Furthermore, unlike drugs or counseling therapies, this technique is very inexpensive. Clients can learn to use it without experiencing further financial hardship.

This technique, which utilizes a combination of Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), helps people to learn to relax and seek harmony and tranquility in the midst of daily life. These techniques guide people to accept the new restrictions in their lives while guiding them to continue living life to the fullest extent that they are able. Even depression that results from medication can be painlessly lessened with the proper application of the methods utilized by hypnotherapy and NLP. Two such strategies are anchoring and the Flash.

Ericksonian Hypnosis is typically referred to as conversational hypnotherapy. It offers methods for providing post-hypnotic suggestions rooted in a conversation or figure of speech. The benefit of this technique is that it eliminates the resistance to direct suggestions that is nearly always encountered when using more traditional forms of hypnosis.

Through anchoring, hypnotherapists and NLP Practitioners instruct people to focus on positive thoughts and memories where they felt relaxed and capable. As the individual becomes absorbed by these recollections, they can experience these emotions once more. The client then learns to make a physical anchor for these feelings by touching two fingers in contact with one another. The subconscious mind creates a connection between the physical touch of these two fingers, and the good feelings. Later, upon encountering a stressful or depressing moment, an anchor is elicited through touching together these same two fingers, re-creating feelings of peace and tranquility.

The Flash technique is also very useful to individuals who are trying to conquer depression. This approach programs the mind to automatically utilize those negative thoughts that are causing stress and sadness, as triggers for positive thoughts that stimulate calm and happiness. Over time, people soon become nearly unable to have negative thoughts!

Summary: Persons with CHF typically experience sadness because of grieving over loss of their physical healthiness and well-being. Other elements that sometimes contribute to depression include medicines and financial stresses. Both Ericksonian Hypnosis and NLP offer excellent techniques for assisting people to deal with sadness without being forced to spend enormous amounts of time and money.

Congestive heart failure, or CHF, is one of the most common chronic diseases. People who have CHF are forced to alter their lifestyles, usually causing anxiety and depression. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming strategies assist people to decrease anxiety and find calm, while avoiding the negative side effects of medications.
