Don't Be Confused by Botanical Skin Care

By: Therese Higgins

It never fails. As soon as a new trend in skin care becomes popular, we're willing to drop a perfectly effective product just because we're afraid to miss out on the latest "secret" for helping us look young and beautiful. Take botanical skin care for instance. As far as trends go, this one seems to be gaining in popularity. But the truth is botanical skin care products are just a variation of the "natural" skin care trend that has been around for several years. So you can see how easy it is to become confused.

I should know, because it happened to me. For several years now, I've made it a point to use skin care products that contain high concentrations of natural, active ingredients. I learned that its easier for your skin to absorb and benefit from natural substances like Vitamin E and CoQ10 Enzyme. This is the best way to support the normal function of your skin cells, which is designed to keep your skin naturally firm, smooth and healthy.

I have to say that my skin has always responded well to these nature-based products. But then I heard the term "botanical skin care" and I was immediately off on a quest to find these botanical skin care products, thinking that they MUST be better than the products I were currently using. This is where the confusion set in.

You see, I'm a label reader. I've learned that you can't trust a product just because it uses the word "natural" in its name. Oftentimes, these so-called "natural" creams and lotions only contain enough natural ingredients to be legally listed on the label. The rest of these products are made up of cheap, synthetic chemicals, like mineral oil, parabens and dioxanes.

So I applied my label-reading practice to the botanical skin care products I was interested in buying. Imagine my confusion when I saw many of the same active, natural ingredients that I was so familiar with. I was expecting to see a list of exotic, "botanical" substances. And the funny thing was, during my search, I also found products being promoted as botanical skin care, but were full of those nasty, chemical ingredients.

It was then I realized the old Shakespeare saying was true: "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Botanical skin care is just another name for natural skin care. And botanical skin care products that contain high concentrations of natural, active ingredients, are just as effective.

Don't be confused. The real story will always be told on the label of any skin care product. Botanical skin care is no different. You can learn more about the good ingredients like avocado and macadamia nut oils, phytessence wakame, CynergyTK™, keratin and Manuka Honey, to name a few, at a web site I’ve set up to clear any confusion. The products that contain these, and other, natural ingredients have helped me for years. I just didn't know they were botanical skin care products.

It never fails. As soon as a new trend in skin care becomes popular, we're willing to drop a perfectly effective product just because we're afraid to miss out on the latest "secret" for helping us look young and beautiful.
