Effectively Addressing Christian Diversity - Nu Leadership Series

How do we deal with rapid cultural changes of our time? The Apostle Paul was confronted with similar issues. There were a variety of cultural and social issues during his time. This can be clearly seen as you review his writings in Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Thessalonians, and Philemon.

The Apostle Paul had to deal with an evolving early church. You had religious differences (Judaism and Christianity), economic inequalities (wealthy and poor people), gender issues (male and female), geographical challenges (from Rome to its remote providences), and cultural differences (Jews and Gentiles).

Many critics argue that Paul’s task of guiding these diverse churches was humanly impossible. Obviously, I would agree. However, the Apostle Paul was guided by a “Holy Ghost” strategy. Therefore, Paul introduced a Christ-centered epistle in Corinthians .

He focused on the commonalities for believers. In I Corinthians 12:12-13, he explains the followers, “The body of Christ has different parts, just as any other body does…But God’s Spirit baptized each of us and made us part of the body of Christ.”

Clearly, the Apostle Paul didn’t spend much time on exploring differences. Instead, he focused on commonalities. Likewise, today’s leaders should focus on building these diverse relationships with a common vision.
