HOW IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT - It is important to remember that how you say something is often much more important than what you say, because people pay attention to body language, how you make eye contact, the inflection in your voice and many other non-verbal cues to ascertain if you are confident in what you are saying. Both women and men enjoy receiving witty or tasteful compliments from confident people, and feel uncomfortable receiving the same compliment from jittery, nervous, soft-spoken people who are completely unsure of themselves.

DON'T BE OBVIOUS - When giving a compliment, try to make that compliment stand out from all of the others that the other person has likely heard before. Stay away from generalities like "You're so beautiful" or "You've got great eyes" and try to identify a unique feature or thing about the other person to give a great compliment.
