I think we all realize that to have a vivid imagination can be of great benefit. We hear that Einstein said that imagination is more important than knowledge. He is just one of a very long list of super successful people who have intimated this same fact.

Despite this knowledge, few of us proceed to do anything to increase our ability to use our imagination effectively. Many people would even say that they would ideally like to be less imaginative. For some people, their imagination gets in the way of their happiness and comfort as it has the ability to produce negative effects in the form of fears and phobias. But these negative effects are merely the effect of a powerful natural ability to imagine which roams free and has yet to be tamed and controlled.

Most attributes in life have potentially both a negative and a positive effect and it is up to each individual to do whatever they can to ensure that they push the balance in their favor and gain a positive outcome. It is easy to think that this is how you are and just accept the experience in a fatalistic manner. We tend to think that we are either creative or otherwise. We might like to have the imagination of Michelangelo (who famously made the quote that he "saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free") but think that it is simply a case of bad luck that we do not possess that creative streak.

This does not have to be the case. OK, we might not quite become Michelangelo, but we can get a good part of the way there on the creativity scale. We are all born with brains that have the capacity to achieve pretty much the same potential and it is experience that dictates which areas become better developed than others.
