How To Let Your Dreams Find You

Dreams are wonderful things to have and to hold onto. Dreaming is the first step towards success and fulfillment. Without a dream you can find yourself floating your way through life like a boat without a rudder.

As children we dream. We listen to fairytales and imagine that we are the hero or heroine. We identify with the characters and adjust the circumstances in our minds to suit ourselves. Some of these dreams come to fruition. Many do not. As we mature, it is easy to lose sight of our dreams, to release them and sadly, to let them go.

Realism dictates that we do indeed need to wave good-bye to some of our dreams. But optimism tells us that instead of letting go of all of these beautiful and exciting dreams, we can adapt them to circumstances and create more appropriate dreams for our current circumstances. The more optimistic we are the wider we spread the wings of our dreams, the happier we feel and the more we achieve.

If you have closed your mind to dreams then it is important for your own sense of fulfillment and happiness to take those barriers down and to locate a rudder for your boat. Instead of justifying why you cannot change or dare not hope, you can choose to allow yourself to sit back and recall the wonderful feeling that dreams instill.

Sometimes your mind requires a little assistance to bring those feelings to the fore. A fun and effective thing to do is to dig out an old children’s book that you used to love. Reread those fairytales and intentionally recall listening to those stories as a child. Close your eyes and remember how it felt when you used to listen to those bedtime stories, and recall those dreams that you once held dear. I bet you find yourself quickly smiling!

Then you might like to imagine that you are floating on the ocean in a boat. In your minds eye place a rudder on your boat. Give it a mast and see yourself unfurling the sails. Imagine steering your boat so that the wind catches your sails and propels you forward. Now you are sailing off towards the horizon, spreading your wings and open to new opportunities and dreams. Notice how good this feels.

Unless you open your mind to dreams and opportunities, they will never be able to find you. Happiness comes from within. Success comes from within.
