How to Promote the Right Values in Your Organization - Nu Leadership Series

By: Daryl G.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people…”
I Peter 2: 9

Having the right values is a critical thing in an organization. Everyone on a team is expected to get along and share common points, such as values. However, value formation and spiritual formation don’t necessarily correspond with organizational leadership. In the past, traditional organizations have no room for spirituality of any kind. The supporting assumption is that well-run organizations are unemotional. Due to the turbulent pace of life and more corporate demands, employees are embracing spirituality in the workplace.

This concept is not about organized religion but rather recognizing the reality that people want to meet an inner desire by having meaningful work. I’ve tried to understand this scholarly term of spiritual formation. In my understanding, it represents finding deeper truths of God’s Words. However, Burer, an expert on spiritual formation, explains spiritual formation is a contemporary expression of both the biblical doctrine and practice of sanctification. Therefore, it is a process by which God makes believers more holy.

Obviously, secular development and spiritual formation often run counter to each other. Managers want an impersonal workforce while God expects a personal relationship with Him and our fellow worker. I Peter 2: 9 explains, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people…” Therefore, it takes an astute leader to balance the secular demands of his organization with the spiritual needs of his followers.
