NLP Can Overcome Anxiety And Stress So You Can Relax

By: Alan B. Densky, CH

More than ever, research is confirming the essential role of stress in triggering or aggravating several physical and emotional disorders. In the June 6, 1983 issue of Time Magazine, the cover story described stress as "The Epidemic of the Eighties." The article also said that stress is our prominent health problem. And there is very little doubt that the world has become even more complicated and stressful in the past two decades since that article was published.

Numerous surveys show that almost everybody feels that they are subject to a lot of stress. Authorities in the field estimate that 75 - 90 percent of the visits to primary care doctors somehow have to do with stress.

Most people claim that their job is the main reason of their stress. Stress levels have also soared in children as well as the senior population because of several reasons including: Peer pressures that often lead to everything from cigarette smoking to drug and alcohol abuse; the loss of family and religious values and ties; growing crime rates; fear for personal safety; as well as social isolation and loneliness.

Stress contributes to problems such as diabetes, ulcers, low back and neck pain, hypertension, strokes and heart attacks. This is because of the increased sympathetic nervous system activity along with the release of cortisol, adrenaline, and other hormones. Chronic stress is corollary of weakened immune system resistance. Stress can contribute to anxiety, depression, and its varied effects on one's organs.
"Stress" is defined as follows by the American Heritage Dictionary:
"To subject to physical or mental pressure, tension, or strain"

The following definition is given for "tension":
"Mental, emotional, or nervous strain"

It defines "anxiety" as follows:
"A state of uneasiness and apprehension, as about future uncertainties"

And the word "depression" is defined as follows:
"The condition of feeling sad or despondent"

The following is the definition of "clinical depression":
"A psychiatric disorder characterized by an inability to concentrate, insomnia, loss of appetite, anhedonia, feelings of extreme sadness, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness, and thoughts of death."

We can be sure of one thing, our thoughts are the primary source of our feelings of stress, anxiety and depression. In other words, what we think about, and our attitudes and points of view about our experiences dictate our feelings. That way, if we can learn how to alter our thoughts, attitudes, and points of view, then we can release our feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression and attain a more positive state of being.

Since the beginning of time, people have searched for methods for releasing stress. With the pharmaceutical industry there seems to be a pill for everything. And to that end the industry has designed a wide array of sedatives from Valium to Xanax. If you choose to utilize drugs for relief, please make sure that you are aware of the side-effects by reading the fine print, which most of the time include addiction and dependency. Unfortunately, these sorts of drugs aim at curing the symptoms, but not the cause. So if one stops ingesting them, the symptoms can return.

A finer method to release tension, stress, anxiety, and depression is to try to cure its actual cause, which as I said before, is generally our thought processes. Now, here is some good news. The heart of hypnosis is relaxing. The AMA accepted hypnosis in 1958 as an effective way to cure stress and stress related symptoms. But unlike anxiolytics, there are no undesirable side effects.

When you enter hypnosis, you are in the Alpha level of consciousness. It is the daydream like temporary psychological mindset that we feel as we are just about to fall asleep in the evening. And we feel it again when we wake up in the morning. There are several different ways we can guide ourselves into this relaxed mood, from progressive relaxation to visual imagery to listening to hypnosis CD's.

When we enter a hypnotic state, we can interact with our unconscious mind, which is the seat of our feelings. And it becomes easier to admit new points of view and ideas which will help us to reduce anxiety, or even avoid it completely.

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), which is a recently developed form of hypnosis, offers a lot of wonderful techniques for dissipating stress. Perhaps the technique that works best is called the "swish" pattern - or the "flash" pattern. When you use this technique, your unconscious will automatically use negative, stress triggering mental images, to create relaxing mental images. In other words, your stressors will automatically cause relaxation!

TO SUMMARIZE
Tension, stress, anxiety, and depression can be caused by our thoughts. So if we change our attitude and the way we feel about our situation and our experiences, we can reduce these feelings at the root. Hypnosis and NLP are natural tools that allow us to change our attitude and point of view to rapidly reduce the main cause of these negative feelings.

Numerous surveys show that almost everybody perceives themselves as being subject to a great deal of stress. Researchers in the field estimate that between 75 and 90 percent of the visits to PCPs (Primary Care Physicians) are related to stress. Hypnotherapy and NLP are natural tools that can be used eliminate stress at the source.
