So you think you want to be a Mompreneur?

Sixty percent of those who seek work-at-home jobs are women. Many moms choose to stay at home but earn an income...in their pajamas.

"Mompreneurs," is a term used to describe women who leave the workplace to raise children and end up operating small home-based businesses. "Mompreneurs" are at the center of a trend that's growing, as millions of business-minded mothers are starting companies and operating them from home.

According to the National Association of Women Business Owners, there are more than 10 million female-owned businesses in the USA and the phenomenon is growing.

So, you think you want to own your own business while being a stay-at-home mom?

Be sure that being a mompreneur is for you. Before your eyes become glassy with dreams of endless free-time to be with your children and images of sitting on your couch with your laptop, running a business out of your home, and earning thousands, let me show you the reality of the situation.

The Downside

Hard Work - Owning your own business is hard work--no matter what kind of business you are starting.

Wear Many Hats – You are going to end up doing a little bit of everything.

Your business is your life. – If you are going to be successful you business is going to take up a lot of your time. A lot!

Employees – Dealing with staffing and personnel issues is the worst part of owing your own business. You want to focus on understanding your customer needs and growing your business but you end up spending 75% of your energy solving people problems.

Risk – Unlike clocking in and clocking out at a regular paying job, you are working your butt off and there may not be a payoff if you are unable to make your business successful.

Mommy Duty – Are still going to have to cook meals, do dishes, wash laundry, and change diapers at home. The mommy duties never go away.

Customers – You are going to get calls at all hours. Be prepared.

The Upside

Customers – Your customers are going to love your business. You'll get lots of calls and emails from people who are so pleased that you have started a business.

Flexibility – You are your own boss and can set your own hours.

Integration - It will be easier to integrate your business and home life.

Creativity – Now that you are the head of marketing and product development for your own company you finally have an outlet for your creative energy.

"Mompreneurs" are at the center of a trend that's growing, as millions of business-minded mothers are starting companies and operating them from home.
