The Nature of Political Values - Nu Leadership Series

Many managers are motivated by a need to get along at any cost. This is not bad quality to possess. However, leaders cannot afford to sacrifice their principles in the process. Therefore, I suggest that leaders should think twice before they engage in Group Think.

As the Tennessee Senate grew fiercer, politics got nastier. It was a race between Ford (Democrat) and Corker (Republican). The stakes were high. Recently, Republicans ran a “Girls Gone Wild” like ad where a blonde winks: “Harold [Ford], call me!” The two candidates argued about whose party own traditional values. Do politicians believe their parties are without blemish? Corker won the election. Ford lost. I suggest that Ford wasn’t the only loser in this moral race. Let’s examine this thought closer.

Historically, sex and politics go together in America. Furthermore, Americans have learned the hypocrisy of politics. They soon learn not to trust politicians. Americans witnessed this phenomenon during Clinton-Lewinsky scandal that brought down a Democrat president and several Republican Congressmen. Therefore, American politics is embroiled in hypocrisy and moral landmines. Will the political officials change their ways. America waits.
