The Zone Diet And How It Works

The Zone diet is a diet program that monitors calorie intake and physical exercise to deliver results. It is a lifestyle-changing diet plan to get people to shed pounds and become physically fit. The main part of this diet program is the food plan developed by a doctor named Barry Sears.

The theory of the diet focuses on the impact of carbohydrates on the body's insulin levels. Eating too many carbohydrates causes the body's blood sugar levels to rise sharply, which causes the body to produce insulin, a hormone that lowers blood sugar levels by causing the sugar to be stored as fat. It is thought that by consuming the right foods, blood sugar levels can be controlled to keep insulin levels in "the zone," a range where the body is supposed to burn fat more efficiently and stop storing excessive fat.

The diet plan balances protein and carbohydrate consumption in a three to four ratio, meaning 40% of your calories will come from carbohydrates and 30% from protein (another 30% typically comes from fat). It is important to monitor calories on the Zone program, with most meals under five hundred calories each and snacks being no more than one hundred calories each.

Under the eating plan, you eat five times a day (three meals and two snacks), never going more than five hours without having a meal or snack. If you get eight hours of sleep each night, this means eating breakfast within one hour of getting up, having lunch within five hours after breakfast, a snack within five hours after lunch, dinner within two or three hours of snack, and a late night snack just before going to bed.

Most of the foods eaten on the Zone program include lean cuts of meat, like fish or chicken and other healthy sources of protein, plenty of vegetables and fruits, and a limited amount of carbohydrates. Rice, cereals, sugar, breads, and potatoes are the kinds of carb heavy foods that dieters should avoid eating, but can eat occasionally. Dieters must also try not to eat processed foods and food with a high sodium content.

Physical activity is another key aspect of the Zone diet. The plan suggests moderate intensity physical exercise for thirty minutes every day, six days each week. Physical activity is supposed to increase the effectiveness of the Zone diet program. Other enhancements to the diet include taking vitamins and nutritional supplements.

The Zone plan works effectively for many people trying to lose weight, but it takes a lot of dedication. The reason why this program and most other diet plans do not seem to work is because many dieters quit before they are able to see results. Many people struggle to stay on any type of diet plan because of food cravings, uncontrollable appetites or eating habits, or a lack the motivation to lose weight.
