Where to and Where Not to Play Airsoft Games

By: Michiel Van Kets

If you enjoy playing airsoft games, the perfect places to go are commercial airsoft venues where you can meet other members to join teams with. These venues have rules and regulations to protect everyone there, whether a player or spectator, from being injured or coming to any harm.

Organizing a game in a public area will bring its problems. Giving no prior warning that an airsoft game is in process will only bring you a lot of trouble.

An airsoft game is a lot of fun, can be quick and involves strategies of taking cover and stalking your opponents and attacking. Any passerby who sees someone dressed up in military gear, hiding behind a tree and aiming at another person is obviously going to be startled and even frightened.

Understandingly most people can’t tell the difference between a real weapon and a good replica, and most airsoft rifles are designed to look like the real thing. Obviously you know it is only a replica, but do you think they are going to stop and listen to an explanation from you? Next thing you know, they will have phoned the local law enforcement and you find the area encircled by police and yourself in a lot of trouble for wasting their time and causing a panic.

The obvious reason why you shouldn’t play an airsoft game in a location without the safety requirements in place is, of course, that a passer-by who is unaware that a game is in process could very easily get in the way of a stray bullet and be injured. A person wandering into the line of fire from an airsoft rifle will be without the safety gear a player usually will be wearing; standard safety requirements at an official airsoft site include a facemask and safety glasses for protection.

Responsible players of airsoft games realize the alarming effect their military gear and replica guns can have on the general public who are likely to think the weapons like AEG airsoft guns are real firearms. An owner of an airsoft gun is expected to be discreet when transporting their gear to and from a play-site so as not to cause any panic. The majority of people would not be able to tell the difference between real sniper airsoft rifles and replicas.

With the ever increasing popularity of airsoft games spreading across the country the amount of game sites are growing and players should have no problem finding a game site near to them. Game sites provide safe areas to play as people who go there realize it is only a game and rules and guidelines will keep everyone from harm.

If you live in an area that really has no game site to speak of, then you could find a private location that would be suitable. The game-area should be taped off somehow to prevent people wandering into the game area.

If you find an area that looks perfect for an airsoft game, always ask permission from the owner of the land. Since it is private land you need their approval first. They might decline your request, not everyone approves of games using weapons and they may feel it is an unsafe sport.

If you do get the owner’s permission then you need to inform the local law enforcement officials where and when each airsoft game will be taking place, by doing this you will avoid any misunderstandings. Incidents in the past have involved officers arriving at an unofficial game site and believing a replica rifle to be a real firearm; this can easily be avoided just by informing the landowner and the local police in advance.

If you should find yourself faced with an officer and a real gun during a game, be prepared. The rules are simple, don’t move unexpectedly so as to distress the officer and do everything the officer asks you to do. Keep calm, put your weapon down and keep your hands in sight. A police officers job is take care of the general public and he cannot be sure if your gun is real or not from a distance and will take the presumption that it is a real firearm.

If you can, always play airsoft games in an official venue where games are allowed. It has been chosen for the surroundings and so provides excellent conditions for an exciting and fun game, you have permission to play there, and they offer the safest places to play.

If you enjoy playing airsoft games, the perfect places to go are commercial airsoft venues where you can meet other members to join teams with.
